Tiffin Room Mashes Flavors of India with Christmas Classics – North Indian Festive Curry Buffet (Dec 1-30)

For those looking for a heavy Christmas feast filled with North Indian cuisine, yet deliver on must-have Christmas classics, the Tiffin Room at Singapore’s historic Raffles Hotel is probably the only place which delivers where it counts.

The hotel’s Chef de Cuisine, Kuldeep Negi, has prepared a special menu for this festive season, featuring dishes such as glazed Christmas ham, whole Llamb leg marinated with star anise and roasted stuffed Christmas turkey being served at a carving station alongside Tiffin Room’s usual buffet spread. A selection of sauces, condiments and stuffing are also available to go with the meats.

Curries are Tiffin Room’s highlights and you won’t be short on options here, with choices including butter chicken, red snapper and lamb curry. Vegetable and lentil curries also abound – the perfect dips to accompany the papadams, garlic as well as plain naans served crisp and warm.

Don’t be intimidated by the extensive selection. If in doubt, head for the butter chicken – you can’t go wrong. The lamb curry, devoid of any gaminess, is a hearty second dish to attempt, followed by the lighter vegetarian options. The array of spices in these curries are hefty on the palette however, and should you wish to wash it all down, a range of Indian wines are available.

When it is time for dessert, Tiffin Room delivers in spades. It is unlikely for any modest diner to try every dessert in one sitting, especially so during this holiday season with the addition of their Christmas treats. We highly recommend a slice of the champagne log cake for a decadent and satisfying start, but also leave room for the various dairy-heavy Indian desserts like the gulab jamun and rasgulla – it is not cloyingly sweet as commonly so.

For a unique experience of Indian cuisine this festive season (and an alternative to Christmas ham), Tiffin Room does a pretty splendid job.
