Open Till 5am: Newly Launched Ramen Keisuke Lobster King at Clarke Quay

Thin, chewy strands of handmade ramen noodles lay relaxed and entwined, taking its time to soak in a broth of lobster, rich and intense, its flavors searing through our palates like a blazing sun in the sahara desert. Welcome to Ramen Keisuke Lobster King.

Renowned across our island for its quality ramen noodles (and snaking queues), Ramen Keisuke is back with its tenth outlet – Ramen Keisuke Lobster King. Conveniently located on the ground floor of nightlife hotspot The Cannery at Clarke Quay, this 80-seater is the second largest outlet under the brand, serving four variteties of lobster broth ramen well into the night. Partygoers’ rejoice, we hear the last order is 4:30am.

Lending a French twist to the traditional ramen recipe, this bisque-styled lobster soup base is available in four styles: clear ($13.90), rich and creamy ($14.90), miso ($14.90), and spicy miso ($15.90).

To begin, the clear soup special ($19.90) arrives with a generous range of toppings – crunchy bamboo shoots, black pepper shrimp wontons made plump and juicy , super tender pork belly, and a flavorful chicken char siew simmered in an consistent 70º Celcius heat.

The broth, made from only the freshest French rock lobsters, delivers an abundance of flavor that is the essence of sweet brininess, and is startlingly intense. Catered to local tastebuds is the spicy miso lobster broth ramen ($15.90) that adds a fiery oomph to its salty miso base, its shellfish accent a tad milder than the rest.

We also happily ordered the prawn gyoza ($8.80 for three) – equal parts fresh shrimp and minced meat that releases a burst of savory juices with each bite. There is also a pork option ($8.80 for five) should you prefer.

Hard to put down is the deep fried chicken ($9.80) with house-made tartar sauce prepared a la minute via tableside service – hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, Japanese pickle, onions, and a special sauce (whose recipe they refused to share) are mixed and mashed at your table. Its simple ministration goes magically with the crispy fried chicken lightly glazed in teriyaki sauce, deserving of a two thumbs up from us.

Quench your thirst with Keisuke’s unique wasabi ginger ale ($4). Less sweet than your average ale with a slight bitter aftertaste, this is definitely worth a try, if not just for its namesake.

Ramen Keisuke Lobster King, #01-07 The Cannery, 3C River Valley Rd., 6255-2928. Open daily (except Chinese New Year) 6pm-5am.
